The Journey: Reintroducing Rhinos to National Parks

Discover the meticulous process of breeding, preparing, and transferring rhinos from Ziwa Sanctuary back to Uganda's historic national parks like Murchison Falls.

Phase 01

Breeding & Protection at Ziwa

Rhinos are bred in the secure, fenced environment of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here, they are protected from poachers and monitored 24/7 by dedicated rangers, allowing the population to grow safely.

Phase 02

Health & Behavioral Assessment

Veterinarians and conservationists conduct rigorous health checks. Rhinos are assessed for their readiness to adapt to a larger, wilder environment, ensuring they are strong and disease-free.

Phase 03

Park Security Preparation

Before any transfer, the destination park (e.g., Murchison Falls) undergoes massive security upgrades. Anti-poaching units are strengthened, and community engagement programs are launched to ensure local support.

Phase 04

The Great Translocation

Using specialized crates and heavy-lift helicopters or secure road transport, rhinos are carefully moved to their new home. The journey is monitored by vets to minimize stress.

Phase 05

Release & Monitoring in the Wild
